How to refill your old candles & the benefits why you should

If you’ve ever wanted to know how to refill a candle, then this is the blog post for you! Refilling candles is an easy and cost-effective way to enjoy your favourite scented candles time and time again. Not only does refilling a candle save you money, but it also has other benefits such as reducing your environmental footprint and the need to constantly purchase new candles. In this post, we will discuss the simple process of refilling a candle and the reasons why you should.

How to Clean Your Candle Jars to Reuse Them

Cleaning out your old used candle jars is simple and best of all doesn't require any extra equipment. It can be easily be done in any home with minimal fuss.

  1. Fill your candle jar with boiling water
  2. Leave it to slowly cool on the side, the wax will begin to melt and rise to the surface.
  3. Once completely cooled simply lift out the hardened wax and drain the water.
  4. Wash out the jar thoroughly with hot soapy water, remove any sticky labels too if you want to.
We don't use sticky labels on our products for a more rustic feel so you can easily remove the labels and clean your jars!

How to Refill Your Jar

  1. Pour the ready mixed wax into a microwave safe bowl, or Pyrex jug.
  2. Put it in the microwave (or an oven if you don't have a microwave), for 2 minutes. Remove, stir and repeat until fully melted.
  3. Peel the plastic cover from the base of the sticky pad on each wick and press it firmly against the base of the jar.
  4. Let the wax cool to roughly 45-55°C and pour into the jar slowly.
  5. Leave the candle to harden on a flat, level surface.

How should I position the wicks?

This depends entirely on your jar. Always place them as centrally as possible for an even burn.

If your jar can take more than one wick safely, place them equally far apart from each other and from the side of the glass.
CAUTION - Ensure your wick is not too close to the glass, as the heat can cause glass to expand and crack. We recommend a minimum of 2cm between the glass and the wick. But your jar may vary.

How long should I leave the candle to cool?

Soy wax takes roughly 2 weeks to reach it's optimal hardness, this is the best length of time to wait before burning your candle as it gets the most out of the wax. But you can burn your candle whenever you like. Just remember that the softer the wax is, the faster it will melt and the shorter your candle will burn for.

We recommend leaving your candle for at least 24 hours before moving it or burning it.
